General Hydroponic Feeding Program

Tips for Hydroponics with Liquid Nutrients

1) Mix Flora Nutrients, measure and adjust to recommended nutrient strength.

2) Add supplements.

3) Accurately measure nutrient strength by obtaining and using a nutrient testing device such as a TDS or EC meter.

  • Maintain pH to 5.5-6.5 with General Hydroponics pH adjusters.
  • If your water is above 200ppm total or 70ppm calcium use Flora Hardwater Micro instead of Flora Micro.
  • Keep ambient temperature between 18-27 C (65-80 F) degrees.
  • If using a recirculating system it is recommended that the nutrient solution be replaced every 7-10 days.
  • In hot environments most water loss will be due to plant transpiration and water evaporation. This will generally concentrate salt levels in the remaining solution.
  • It is recommended that only fresh water be used to top off your system's reservoir between nutrient changes.
  • In tanks over 20 gallons, a good rule of thumb is the "fresh water allowance system". Once you have added 50% of the original nutrient solution's volume in fresh water, it is time to replace your nutrient.
  • Foliar feed with 50mL Diamond Nectar per liter of water (6 fl. oz per gal.) Spray foliage generously every 7-14 days throughout grow phase. Apply a light mist ONCE, 1 week before harvest.

Tips for Soilless Mixes with Dry Nutrients

1) Mix Maxi or FloraMagic Nutrients, measure and adjust to recommended nutrient strength.

2) Add supplements.

3) Accurately measure nutrient strength by obtaining and using a nutrient testing device such as a TDS or EC meter. If required, adjust pH of nutrient solution to 5.5 to 6.5.

  • Lime soilless mix with 1 cup (250 ml) Dolomite Lime per cubic foot of medium (typically 5 cups or 1250 ml per bale of Sunshine or Pro Mix.) Do not lime soilless mix if you hard water!
  • Allow 15% of container volume to run-off with each irrigation to reduce salt buildup. For one 3 gallon container allow about 1/2 gallon (about 1 to 2 Litres) of run off.
  • Periodically measure the pH and TDS/EC of the nutrient funoff to help determine adjustments as required.
  • Flush medium weekly or as required with pure, pH adjusted water to prevent salt build up.
  • Fertilize at the prescribed rates every 3rd irrigation or at 1/4 strength with each irrigation.

Tips for Soil Gardening with Dry Nutrients

1) Mix Maxi or FloraMagic Nutrients, measure and adjust to recommended nutrient strength.

2) Add supplements.

  • For best results, dampen soil in root zone prior to feeding.
  • Fertilize at the prescribed rates every 3rd irrigation or at 1/4 strength with each irrigation.
  • Water 1-5 gallons per plant every 2-5 days, depending on soil type.
  • Stop feeding 2-3 weeks prior to harvesting and flush root sone with ample water.
  • When using Kool Bloom, be careful using agresive strengh blooming formula.
